Steelers Apply Second-Round Tender to Boswell; Gay To Be Released

The Steelers have reportedly made two moves on Monday.

Per Adam Caplan, the Steelers have applied their second-round tender to Chris Boswell, who is a restricted free agent (RFA). The tender is for one year and is worth $2.9 million.

Boswell is still able to be signed by another NFL team, just like any other RFA, but since the tender is applied, that team would forfeit a second round pick. The Steelers still may try to sign Boswell to a long-term deal, but this move may make the negotiations a bit more exclusive. Boswell was the AFC’s Pro Bowl kicker in 2017.

The Steelers have also reportedly released defensive back William Gay. The Steelers cleared $1.75 million in cap space by releasing the last remaining member of the memorable 2008 defense.

Gay announced the move on his personal Instagram account Monday.

Reminder: NFL free agency starts March 14th at 4 PM EST.
